Welcome to Your New Home!

After a long overnight flight with two surprisingly well behaved kids we made it to Sao Paulo.  The most eventful part of the flight was that at random moments TSP’s overhead light would turn on or BLP would wildly kick the seat in front of her while she slept.  Both of these things meant that TSP did not really sleep that night.

The first thing that hit us when we stepped out of the airplane was how hot it is here in Brazil.  When we left Wyoming it was seven degrees.  It was 82 the next time we were outside.  Our wonderful sponsors picked us up at the airport (even though they had family coming in the same day).  They also set us up with some food and other necessities.

We live in a great apartment here.  It’s another four bedroom place, so one bedroom (the one without AC) is acting as an office.  Our building has a small playground and an indoor pool.  The only drawback we’ve found in Sao Paulo is the traffic and pollution.  Besides that, it’s a great place.

AJP started school his third day in Brazil and loves it.  Well, mostly loves it.  He complains that he hates all the rules.  When we ask him what he means, since this school is not really rule-oriented, he tells us that he has to eat salad everyday for lunch.  He hates that!  The school has beautiful grounds that we can use and TSP is able to walk up the hill with him every day to get there (two small but very very steep hills to be exact).

One of the blessings we’ve received in Sao Paulo is our local ward (congregation).  It is a Portuguese speaking ward with many people who speak English.  The other people are very patient with our butchering of their language.

Our Portuguese skills are picking up daily.  We’re trying hard to talk with people and hopefully we aren’t accidently offending too many of them.  TSP has successfully navigated taxis and ordering bottled water over the phone.  Most of the time, when people don’t understand what we are saying it is not because we are speaking English it is because we are speaking Spanish!

Below are some pictures out the windows of our new apartment.

Wow! It looks so beautiful. I hate the salad rule, too, but those are the breaks...
Hope you're really happy there.
