Grateful Fast Sunday VI

I decided I would start numbering my “Grateful Fast Sunday” posts.  I can’t believe this is the sixth time I have done this.  Time seems to be going by very quickly. . .

This Fast Sunday I am grateful for:

1.      The opportunities and challenges that accompany living in a different culture.  Admittedly, today I feel the challenges more than the opportunities.  I feel that every new place, every new day requires that I do more than stretch my comfort zone.  It requires that I obliterate its very existence.  I have become accustomed to not understanding jokes (and often being the object of them), seeing looks of utter confusion on people’s faces after I speak, learning the value of kissing when I greet someone and having to learn the different names for my favorite food items.  That is just a few of the many challenges.  There are opportunities, however.  The best opportunity is the many beautiful people I have met.  I have friends on every continent.  The connectedness I feel to world events is profound.  I am lucky to have such blessings.

2.      AJP and BLP going back to school tomorrow.  This past week has been Carnival and the children have had the week off from school.  I appreciate the structure and rhythm that school gives our family.

3.      The increased emphasis I have put on working out.  For the past nine years, I have been addicted to working out.  I hate to admit it but the addiction has waxed and waned somewhat over the years.  Lucky for me, I am in a waxing period and feel really excited about doing it.

4.      The beautiful flower market here.  I went there Friday morning bright and early (4:45 AM!) and came home with some plants and flowers.  The pink roses prompted BLP to exclaim, “Mom, those flowers are SO BEAUTIFUL!”
