Carnival 2009

About a week and an half ago was carnival here in Brazil.  (I am barely posting now because – well, I have no idea – laziness?)  We did not go to any of the activities (any activity advertised with the tag line “Don’t forget to bring condoms!” is not really our type of activity.)  We did have some fun and a whole lot of relaxation, however.

JTP spent Saturday through Tuesday camping with the young men of our ward.  Every year the stake (like a catholic diocese) gets the youth together so they can share spiritual experiences and have some fun during the carnival school break.  JTP had a fine time and did not even come back with a sunburn!

The children and I went on Saturday to a farm outside the city that some of our friends own.  They had a pool, live chickens, a garden, soccer field and an outdoor BBQ area.  AJP and BLP spent almost the whole day in the pool.  I enjoyed visiting with dear friends and taking in the beautiful scenery.  It was kind of an interesting experience since I was the only native English speaker (and American) there.  At one point, one of my friends asked if I understood the conversation.  I replied that I get most of it but it is VERY difficult when five or six native speakers are together and I am trying to understand.  Overall, it was a great experience!

The rest of the week the children and I played games, went to the playground, watched movies, and played dress-up.  It was relaxing to not have any plans and let the kids stay in pajamas most of the day.
