Swimming

AJP and BLP are both participating in swimming this year at school.  Each had their first meets these past two weekends.  Here is their accounting of it.

AJP

Have you ever been in a swim meet?  I have. I went to a swim gala (as they call the in Nairobi) last weekend. My first event was the boys 50m backstroke. To make a long story short, I won the event by more than 5 seconds. The funny thing about that was that the kid who came in second is a friend from school. Now to my second event, the event was 50m breaststroke. I came in third but I got disqualified because I hit the 25m wall with only one hand. Getting disqualified didn’t matter to me because I had already won once. My parents were so pleased with my performance that we went to a frozen yogurt place after to celebrate!

BLP

I would like to tell you about my very first swimming competition. I did the 25m free style or you might call it the crawl. It was very exciting for me because it was my very first swimming competition and I won second place. You might say, “Wow!” How did she do that? First, I have been doing swimming for years and years. Second, I practice twice a week. I didn’t think I would have any fun but I did. I didn’t think I would have any friends there but I had lots of friends there. My first swim meet was a success.
