HHE

HHE is short for house hold effects.  It is what the State Department calls our stuff, such as furniture, dishes, pictures, beds, books, the kid's toys etc, that usually is shipped via boat.  We received our HHE this past Friday.  The delivery ran very smoothly.  I had put on the inventory where I wanted the boxes so the movers put them there and then unloaded them.  We had a huge pile of paper in our drive way when they were finished.  I wish I would have taken a photo of it but I was too busy starting to organize the inside of the house.  I also worked most of the day Saturday to get the kitchen in order but the rest of the house still looks pretty disorganized.  In fact, it looks like a bomb went off.  I will spend the next few weeks getting everything organized and put in its place.  This is the phase that I hate about moving.  I love it when the house is organized but this moment after everything has arrived and I have to find a place to put it is awful.

One of the most interesting part of the delivery was the movers asking for the plywood crates that the moving boxes arrived in.  Apparently, plywood is extremely valuable here and the movers had an expectation that they would get at least some of the plywood crates.  We gave them one to share but we plan on using the other plywood pieces to have things made or maybe to trade a carpenter for furniture.  Once everything is put in its place we can think about that. . .
