Guest Bloggers - AJP and BLP

Mormon Helping Hands Service Project - AJP

AJP digging a hole at the school.

Children in the slum behind the school.

Hi, I’m AJP, son of the people who write the blog. I am going to tell you about getting lost in a Nairobi slum and planting trees. You might think, “What do Nairobi slums and planting trees have in common?” Well, I will tell you!

We did a church service project at a school. The walk was very smelly, but I did not mind, because I talked to friends. When we got to the school, we dug holes for trees.  The ground was so solid! Then a man brought a pick to break up the soil and that made it easier. At the end of the project, we walked back but got lost. We were lost for about an hour in the Kangemi slum. When we were lost, there was this stoned dude that thought a lighter was a rocket. I went home and took a shower because I was very dirty.  It was a good experience. I learned that not all kids live a nice life or go to good schools. I now know how lucky I am.

This is AJP, signing off.

Hell's Gate National Park - BLP

AJP and BLP in a slot canyon at Hell's Gate National Park.

BLP on lake Naivasha looking for hippotamus.

I am going to tell you about an experience going to a national park named Hell’s Gate. It was a fun experience. We saw a spot were water came hot out of a rock. We also saw gazelles, zebras, giraffes and baboons. They were really cool. We had to go to the bathroom in a hole (often called a Turkish squatter). We went on a hike that was basically climbing rocks. After that, we went on a boat and saw hippopotamus and a lot of birds.  We had a great time and got very dirty.
