New Year’s Resolutions

Normally, I don’t like to make New Year’s resolutions. The weather is usually snowy and cold and it just does not feel like a moment of rebirth to me. (Maybe I would go for spring resolutions but that is a topic for another day.) In Brazil, I feel rather different. I even feel inspired to make New Year’s resolutions. The weather is sunny with some rain and the trees are green with many having flowers. It really feels like a time to try to change. I am teaching the Relief Society lesson tomorrow on being born again in Christ. Preparing for this lesson has really inspired me as well. It has helped me realize again that with Christ change is possible. I was also inspired by a great talk in church last week. In the talk, the speaker (he may have been quoting someone, I don’t remember) suggested four areas to try and change – Spiritual, Intellectual, Physical and Social. I have thought and prayed about it and decided to set one goal in each area. The speaker also mentioned that if one shares the goals with others, there is a greater chance of success. Therefore, I am sharing them here and will give updates throughout the year.

Spiritual Read the Sunday school and Relief Society lessons every week.

Intellectual Read at least 15 books this year.

Physical Lose 10 kilos.

Social Go out with JTP at least once a month.

So there you go. I did think I could explain each goal and go into detail on why I chose them but I don’t think I will bore you with all that. Also, I keep telling myself that it only takes six weeks to make a habit. That means that I can focus on mid-February instead of next December. I think it makes it feel more do-able. Wish me luck!!
