This Fast Sunday I am grateful for the following:
1. The opportunity to start again. Like I said in my last post, I taught Relief Society today. The topic was being born of God. The lesson focused on the baptisms of water and of the Spirit. It explained that when we receive both of these baptisms we can be born again. I really love how born again is said in Portuguese. It is said “nascer de novo”. While “nascer de novo” actually means “born again”, I think it could also be translated “born anew”. It seems to make better sense in Portuguese. Like being born again is a new fresh start. I really like that. At any rate, thinking about the concept of being born again (especially in Portuguese) made me really grateful that I can be born again in Christ and have a fresh start through repentance and faith.
2. The friends we have met here in Brazil. We had a wonderful time on Christmas Eve with some Brazilian friends and then we rang in the New Year with some American friends. I feel very blessed to be able to experience both. We are lucky to have Brazilians that welcome us into their lives as well as having the wonderful shared expat experience with our American friends. I cherish both.
3. AJP and BLP. We went to a venom research institute yesterday and saw a lot of different kinds of snakes. They were so excited. They ran from display to display finding joy in each new sight. It is such a blessing to see life through their eyes. It has given my life such great meaning.
