Some new developments

I realized today that I have not posted anything on our blog since August 8th. Where did the time go? I made a list of some of the things we have been up to that may explain the blur of the past two weeks.

1. School started for both AJP and BLP. BLP actually started the end of July because she is on the southern hemisphere schedule. She is still in a Portuguese language preschool and loves every minute of it. AJP is now in second grade. On our way to school the first day he told me that he was sure second grade would be twice as hard as first grade. I think he feels the same way every night as he does his home work. He has a wonderful teacher and already is improving his reading and writing skills.

2. I started teaching English as a foreign language. I am tutoring a young man who wants to go to law school in the U.S. and I am trying to decide between two other opportunities. One is to work part-time at a school and the other is to tutor a Brazilian woman that has kids at AJP’s school. I am going to think about it tomorrow and the next day and see what will work best. It is exciting to have some extra money but it is more exciting to have an opportunity to try something I have been thinking about doing for some time.

3. We were lucky this past week end to have our friend D that we met in Boston stay with us over the weekend. He works for the World Bank and was here in Brazil when he had a passport issue. JTP was notified of the problem by the duty officer (and emails from D) so he invited D to stay with us until the problem could be resolved on Monday morning. It was great to get reacquainted with D. We only wish his wife and family had been with him so we could have seen them all!

Fun! If it's "D.E." of the "D & D E" fame, then tell him hello from us. :)
