From my blog to Embassy Brasilia’s memo

Our faithful blog readers may remember this post where I complained about getting through Brazilian customs and immigration. I suppose my main complaint is that the Brazilian experience was not nearly as easy (nor were the people as deferential) as the Colombian experience. It turns out that last week the Embassy in Brasilia sent out a memo about “cooperating with Brazilian police”. It notified all mission personnel and their dependents that we had to obey traffic laws, pay traffic tickets and cooperate with road blocks etc. Normally, that is not a problem for me. I try to always obey laws as far as I have knowledge of them. The interesting part of the memo was that we had to submit to bag searches upon entering the country. I felt like they had read my post and were specifically sending me a message. While I know that is not true (just my paranoia kicking in), it was kind of strange to have complained about it on my blog and then read that I was completely in the wrong. So in case someone is really reading this, I apologize for being so arrogant at the airport. I will change my ways and not be nearly as rude next time. Bless the customs people that they did not make it harder on me than they did!
