Grateful (but late) Sunday XI

My prince of the jungle.

My princess of the jungle.

This past Sunday as we fasted we had a number of things on our minds. The most pressing was our next assignment. We spent some of Saturday looking at the list and thinking about the possibilities. In light of this and our latest adventure, this past Fast Sunday I was (still am) most thankful for:

1. The soothing calm of the Spirit. I have been very stressed about our next assignment. In some ways, it is like drinking from a fire hose since the possibilities seem endless. The reality of the situation is more like trying to pick raspberries. There are a lot of thorns and leaves that you have to look through in order to find the right places/jobs for our list. The influence of Spirit has helped me put the outcome in the Lord’s hands. We will do our part and leave the rest up to God.

2. The incredible earth. Our trip to the Amazon was unbelievable. I am so glad we decided to go. During our trip, AJP read a book about the Amazon. One of the comments by the young boy in the book was, “The Amazon is amazing.” I have to agree.

I'm curious, how do the assignments work? It sounds like you have some say in where you are assigned. Do you get to submit a list of requested locations?

Basically towards the end of each assignment I have to look for a new job within the State Department. Currently I am putting together a few different lists of possibilities. For some of the jobs I have to actively “lobby” to get them. For others it is a more streamlined process. Hopefully something nice comes up.
