April Book of the Month

This month was dedicated to popular fiction. I was able to plow through About a Boy by Nick Hornby and The King of Torts and The Partner by John Grisham.

TSP and I love the movie version of About a Boy so we decided that the book should be good as well. The book was a bit darker than the movie, but still good. I could use it being a little less graphic.

Of the Grisham books, I liked The Partner better although I think that the moral of The King of Torts hits home more. The basic theme of the book was that mass tort (class action) lawyers are greedy and should suffer the kinds of losses that the main character in the book suffered. While I wouldn’t wish a serious beat down (emotionally, legally, financially and physically) like the main character suffered on anyone, I think a lot of people wouldn’t mind greedy lawyers loosing some. It’s also an example that there are no windfalls in the law, except for lawyer’s.

I borrowed all the books from a book exchange at  work, and that’s what I’d do again.
