BLP has many nicknames. As he does with AJP, JTP never ceases to come up with interesting names to call her. One of his favorites is calling AJP “Thing One” and BLP “Thing Two”. Another favorite of his for BLP is “min” from "minimus" since she is the smallest in the family. I don’t have quite so many names for BLP but my favorite is "Leãozinha" which means little lion in Portuguese. I first started calling her "Leãozinha" during my Portuguese classes in Bogotá. Sometimes when BLP wakes up or plays especially rough, her hair sticks out just like a lion’s mane. In my class, we had an assignment with a song called, "O Leãozinho". It is a famous song by the talented and very popular Brazilian singer, Caetano Veloso. The story our teacher told us is that Mr. Veloso wrote the song at a very difficult time in his life as he watched his son play on the beach. (At least I think that is what he said, it was all in Portuguese!) It is one of the sweetest songs I have ever heard. Every time I hear the song, it makes me happy – just as being with BLP makes me happy. I have pasted the lyrics I found on the internet below along with a YouTube link of Mr. Veloso singing the song.
Gosto muito de te ver, leãozinho,
Caminhando sob o sol.
Gosto muito de você, leãozinho,
Para desentristecer, leãozinho,
O meu coração tão só,
Basta eu encontrar você no caminho.
Tua pele, tua luz, tua juba.
Gosto de ficar ao sol, leãozinho,
De molhar minha juba,
De estar perto de você e entrar numa.
