This photo is from when JTP and AJP took some of our Christmas visitors on a hike. I don't think I have put a photo up of it yet.
I wrote this post last Sunday but did not have time to put it up. . .
We have had a difficult two weeks. Two Saturdays ago, I found lice in the kid’s
hair. We spent most of the weekend going
about the business of clearing the infestation.
It caused a lot tears (on the kid’s part) and handwringing (on my
part). We all prayed that we could get
rid of them and we did – so we thought.
I found them again when I was braiding BLP’s hair for soccer this past
Saturday. That meant no soccer and hours
of work to help clear the infestation.
AJP still went to soccer because I did not have time to check him before
he went. (As it turns out, that was good
since his team won in a small tourney they hosted.) However, he was not immune to the infestation
and neither was I. That means that more
than half our family now has it. Lucky for
us, AQP has not shown any signs of it and neither has JTP. This time we are taking no chances – everyone
is getting some sort of treatment!
This experience made me realize again that sometimes it is
just harder to find things to be grateful for than others. I feel like the times when it is the hardest
to find something to be grateful for are the times I must exert myself the most
to do so. Finding the things I am
grateful for goes a long way to making me feel better. That means that this past Fast Sunday I am
grateful for the following:
1. Kids that are excellent sports with getting their hair
combed and bedding washed. It was
painful and humiliating for the kids to have the lice removed but they did it with
only minor complaints. AQP was also a
champ at letting my do the de-lousing when she would have preferred to have me
play with her or feed her. We are so
lucky to have such great kids!
2. Faith of little
children. It was so sweet to hear BLP
pray that she could get rid of the lice and not have them come back this
time. I prayed that her faith would be
rewarded.
3. The DPO. It is great that we can order things that are
familiar to us (like lice combs and Rosemary Repel shampoo). They have a problem with fraudulent
medications here so it is nice to know that what we get is the real deal.
4. JTP’s new calling.
Finally something not lice related!
We got a new bishop at church yesterday and JTP was called to be the
High Priest Group leader. When he was
called they asked him to focus on strengthening families. He has already thought of a few things he
wants to do. Any calling
(responsibility) he gets, he always give 110%.
I am so thankful this is no exception.

We had lice this time last year, so I can totally sympathize...although I never did get it. My oldest girls had it the worst. Maggie ended up getting about 6 inches cut off her hair because it was just so much to go through that she was willing to have a new hairdo. After that she got pink eye, so in the course of 2 weeks I only had one day with both my girls in school! I remember just having a backache from spending the day bent over heads and picking out lice. blah. Good luck with no recurrence!
