Birmingham

A beautiful shot of Birmingham from Google images.

JTP's parents decided a few months ago that they would like to serve a full-time mission for our church. Most commonly people recognize the young 19 and 21 year old missionaries and don't realize that older couples can also serve missions. These senior couples do a variety of things from humanitarian service to family history research. Many are sent inside their home countries but sometimes they are sent abroad to a foreign country. Yesterday in the mail RHP and FMP received their call. They are going to Birmingham, England! They leave for a short training on May 7, 2012 and then will head over to England. They will serve for 23 months or about the time that we are in Kenya. It is not clear (at least to us) what they will be doing there but we know the most important part. They will be serving others in some capacity. We are at once excited for them and extremely proud of their decision. It can't be easy to choose to leave family and friends. They will not be here to welcome our third child or to see the baptism of one of their other grandchildren. However, they know, as we do, that when the Lord calls, incredible blessings come no matter the sacrifice required.

So cool! My parents entered the Missionary Training Center on January 2. This past Sunday they arrived in Canada where they'll be serving for 18 months as office missionaries. It's kind of funny to think of them wearing the black name tags, and it's a little different from having a young person going on a mission (we can email and even call more). Still, no visits from grandparents for awhile. We're so glad for their example, just like you guys and JTP's parents.
