In our church, the first Sunday of every month is dedicated to fasting. This means that for one day or three meals we go without food and water. We are also encouraged to take the money that we would have spent on food, or some other generous amount, and donate it to the poor. To commemorate Fast Sunday, a few months ago I started a Grateful Fast Sunday post. It is my way of focusing on what I have rather than what I am lacking. I am indeed grateful in a general sense for all that the Lord has blessed me with; however, here are a few specifics:
1. Not dying Saturday. I had a terrible stomach flu and it felt like I was nigh unto death. I don’t think I will ever eat cheese on a stick again (although I don’t believe that is what caused the illness. I just happened to eat it a few hours before.)
2. Thanksgiving. It was great to spend the day with some American friends at our church. One of our church leaders, who is a self-proclaimed “adopted American”, spoke for a few minutes about the history of Thanksgiving. He mentioned that in his native language, French, there is not a one word translation for Thanksgiving. It would have to be translated the feast of Thanks. Thinking about it that way seemed so appropriate and helped me to think about Thanksgiving in a different way . . . feasting at the Lord’s table, the many feast in Biblical times etc. etc.
3. Christmas. Although the weather is not that frightful and we have plenty of places to go, this is turning out to be a great time to be in Brazil. It is especially wonderful this year since AJP is so excited and is making all sorts of decorations.

Glad you're feeling better, but you're giving cheese on a stick a really bad rep!! None of your visitors will ever want to eat it and it is sooooo good!
TAG! I think you're awesome, so I'm tagging you on my blog. Please share the secrets of your awesomeness. :)
