“This is how we got The Book of Mormon” a play by AJP

As we mentioned in a previous post, AJP is obsessed with Mormon Church history. He decided a few months ago that he wanted to act out the story of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. He started planning the play and decided that he would debut it during a visit by his Grandma E. AJP started out with Joseph Smith reading in the Epistle of James 1:5 “If any of ye lack wisdom, let him ask of God . . .” AJP then reenacted Joseph Smith going to the Sacred Grove to pray. He actually said the prayer he imagined that Joseph Smith would have said. We over heard him saying, “Heavenly Father, which church should I join?” After pretending to see God and Jesus Christ in a light from the ceiling, AJP returned to the part of our living that we had made to be Joseph’s bedroom. AJP and BLP, playing Joseph’s brother Hyrum, were lying in bed when they were visited by the angel Moroni. Moroni told Joseph that there was a sacred record hidden in the hill Cumorah. AJP, as Joseph, then proceeded to find the golden plates that would become The Book of Mormon. The next scene was Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery translating The Book of Mormon. The play ends with AJP standing to say, “And this is how we got The Book of Mormon.” The play was fun, but more importantly we all learned the significance of a child’s faith.
