Happy Mother's Day

To the mothers in my life. . .

My step mother married my dad right around the time AJP was born. They had been together a while and I could already see the wonderful example she was to my dad. I knew he had found someone that he could share his life with. I have always thought that she is the perfect combination of rebel and saint for my dad. She doesn't take her self too seriously and doesn't let my dad take himself too seriously either. She has and electric smile that lights up a room. She is generous and thoughtful. AJP and BLP always comment that Grandpa D has handwriting just like Grandma P when they get their birthday cards. She never forgets their birthdays. I am so pleased that after so many years my dad has found someone so wonderful to share his life with. Thank you, PLS for loving my dad and being good to him. You bring out the best in him.

One of my clearest memories of my mother-in-law is her saying "put it on my bill." She was, of course, referring to an offer she made to buy the kids, me or JTP something we needed. She gave me full latitude in picking something appropriate and then just letting her know how much she needed to reimburse us. She has never once questioned a purchase or a price. I suppose to some this may seem cold and not very thoughtful. To me, however, it is one of the sweetest and kindest things she could have done. She showed great trust in me that I would not over spend and she also acknowledged that I have a more intimate knowledge about what our family needs. It shows great humility and trust. Thank you, RHP for your trust and willingness to help - however we need it.

When I was younger, my mom used bring home crazy things she found at the grocery store. She wasn't sure how to eat them but they were exotic and she would want us to try them. She may have only done it once or twice but in my memory she did it all the time. I have been reflecting on that lately and feel that, by a small and seemingly insignificant act, she helped prepare me for what I am doing now. She probably does not even remember any of the exotic foods she brought home but those experiences planted the seed of adventure in me. A seed that now has grown and is helping me be successful in the life I now lead. Thanks, mom for all the small things you have done in my life and the continued encouragement in helping me fulfill my purpose in life!
