Grateful Fast Sunday XXIV

December 2008 on the beach

I really miss warm Christmas. I thought I would miss having snow on Christmas until I experienced it in the summer. First in Bogotá, where Christmas brought with it beautifully sunny skies and warm (for Bogotá) weather. Then came São Paulo, where ninety degree days were common. I really loved it. This year December has decided to start off with a bitter wind and cold chill. I am scrambling to feel warm with layers of coats and long sleeved shirts while the kids are convinced that coat weather has not really started. Last time I checked forty degrees warranted a coat but some things are not worth the battle. While it is not summer and despite the chill in the air, I have many things to be grateful for.

1. A warm place to live. We really like our apartment and our neighbors. We have heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. Sometimes these things become so expected that it is easy to take them for granted.

2. AJP and BLP’s excitement for Christmas. Christmas with children is the best way to spend the holiday. Their enthusiasm gives the season a special kind of magic.

3. The Spirit. I am grateful that the Spirit helps us know the will of God. I have been really pondering what I should do in the near future. I am in the midst of some difficult choices (mainly because they are the kind between good and good with no clear winner.) The gift of the Spirit is key in figuring out exactly what the Lord has planned for me.
